The Maine Crisis Line

1-888-568-1112

The Maine Crisis Line (MCL) is the state’s crisis telephone response service for individuals or families experiencing a behavioral health crisis or having thoughts of suicide and/or self-harm. Trained crisis call specialists answer the line and provide free and confidential telephone support and stabilization 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Maine Crisis Line (MCL) is the single point of entry to Maine’s Behavioral Health Crisis Services System by dialing the toll free number: 1-888-568-1112.

TOA has been providing telephonic crisis intervention since 1970 and our call specialists continue to work with callers – individuals, families, youth, elderly, veterans– to develop a strengths-based plan that focuses on the stabilization of the individual and/or family member. If the caller requires a face-to-face crisis assessment, call specialists warm transfer the caller to the appropriate District Mobile Crisis Response Organization (see districts to the right under Resources).

The MCL is committed to serving non-English speaking and deaf or hard of hearing callers. We maintain a contract with a telephonic interpreting company which enables our program staff to have the ability to conduct a three-way conference call between the staff, the caller, and the interpreter. Additionally, we provide service to individuals who are hard of hearing or deaf through video relay communications.

Callers who are not experiencing a behavioral health crisis and are seeking referral information only are warm transferred to 2-1-1 Maine.

Our main goal is to help you through whatever crisis you are in and support you through it. We are here if you need to talk about someone you are concerned about as well. Don't be afraid to reach out. The call is confidential and providing us with personal information is 100% voluntary. If you are someone who has a difficult time talking to someone by phone, you can use our TEXT / CHAT line.

Remember, one phone call could save your life or the life of someone you care about.
